William Hamilton joins Advantage Health as its first Chief Development Officer

Advantage Health has hired William Hamilton as its first Chief Development Officer. In this role Hamilton will lead all fundraising efforts for the Detroit-based, non-profit, federally qualified health center. He has also joined Advantage’s executive team in that role.

Hamilton holds a Master of Public Administration Non-Profit Management from Eastern Michigan University and joins Advantage following a 15-year career in the development field, spent largely in the healthcare sector. He has worked for multiple non-profit organizations in Southeastern Michigan and spent four years working in community engagement while finishing his PhD in leadership studies at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.

Hamilton says it is telling that many healthcare organizations like Advantage function as non-profits. That is often a sign of need within a community that an underserved portion of the population is not getting the proper amount of healthcare services. Hamilton is looking forward to being a part of the Advantage executive team responsible for filling that need.

“I’m happy and humbled to be supporting this mission,” he said. “I’m looking to further expand relationships with other like-minded organizations within the city of Detroit and neighboring communities.”

Hamilton has a personal reason for his career interest in healthcare and fundraising. As a child growing up in metro Detroit, he had many asthmatic challenges that forced him to spend significant time in the hospital and within the healthcare system. He knows how important the right care and coverage having is, and laments that this is not always possible for some underserved neighbors.

In his role, Hamilton will foster relationships with community leaders, donors and other stakeholders and plans to increase fundraising activities for Advantage to not only increase revenues but expand the organization’s brand and exposure. One of his roles is to create a relationship with interested parties that is both “mission and impact driven.”
